There are people who still think that the influence of the moon on plants is nonsense or that they don’t even pay attention to it, I will tell you that we have come across cases of people who have not germinated any seeds, or that they have strange plants, etc. And there have been cases in some years where incredible plants have come out. This may be due to genetics, but it is also very likely to be due to the influence of the moon, not only at the time of germination, but it can also affect transplanting, pruning, cuttings and even harvesting.
But the moon really influences the sap of plants, affecting photosynthesis, germination and transplanting.
The Moon
The moon has several cycles and phases, below we explain the most important phases for cannabis cultivation and how to identify each of the phases.
Ascending and descending moon
Ascending or descending moon is the position in the height of the moon, to know if the moon is ascending or descending we only have to observe the moon a couple of days in a row. We will look at the position of the moon and we will take the height reference with some building or some object, if the next day it is higher it is ascending and if it is lower it is descending.
This is important, because with an ascending moon the sap of the plants is more concentrated in the upper parts and with a descending moon the sap is more concentrated in the lower parts and roots.
Apart from ascending and descending the moon goes through different lunar cycles, the most important lunar cycles for cultivation are new moon, crescent, full moon and waning quarter.

To know the exact moment to germinate seeds, when to prune, when to make cuttings, fertilise or even harvest, we need to know how the lunar cycles affect cannabis plants, so here we go!
New Moon
We call the new moon the moon that shines the least, at this time the illuminated part of the moon is not visible from the earth, as the moon is located between the earth and the sun.
In this lunar phase the sap of the plants is completely still in the lower part and roots of the plants. In this phase the plants rest and recharge their energy.
- This is the recommended time for pruning, branch bending, pruning and fertilising.
- It is not recommended to carry out work on the same day as the new moon, wait until the following day.
Waxing moon
In this phase the moon begins to grow and light up, increasing the power of its rays. Along with this lunar movement, the sap of the plants will begin to move, rising from the roots to the stem and branches.

In the northern hemisphere the crescent moon is D-shaped.

Full moon
We call it a full moon when it is completely illuminated. During this phase, the sap of the plants will have greater activity, focusing more on the upper parts of the plants.
- The full moon is ideal for planting germinated seeds.
- Perform transplants.
- Harvest (Not the same day).
- It is not recommended to perform pruning or cuttings during this lunar phase.
- Slow root growth.
- It is not recommended to fertilize on a full moon.
Waning moon
In this phase, the moon begins to wane and lose brightness. At this time the sap begins to move less and begins to descend again towards the stem and the leaves below, although the sap has not yet reached the roots, it is at this time that the roots develop.

- In this phase it is very appropriate to fertilize and water.
- Pruning, preferably on a descending moon.

January 3 – 10: the moon is in its waning phase. Phase where it is convenient to fertilize and water, we will perform pruning if the moon is in the descending phase and we will harvest. If we harvest that week our buds will have a better smell and flavor.
January 11 – 12: The day after the new moon is the perfect time to bend branches, stake, prune and fertilize our cannabis plants.
January 13 – 25: the moon is in the waxing phase. During these weeks it will be an ideal period to use preventatives against fungi or pests, fertilize the plants with organic fertilizers and water, since the plants will absorb water better. In addition, it will be a good period to harvest cannabis plants.
The crescent phase of the moon is the best to germinate cannabis seeds. Thanks to the cannabis lunar calendar, we recommend germinating them the week of the 22nd.
January 26 – 27: The 26th day of the full moon is the best day to plant the seeds that we have germinated that same week. It is also a good time to transplant the plants to larger pots. Additionally, the 27th will be the best time to harvest the buds.
During the last days of the month, the moon has a waning phase, so we will again be able to carry out the work of the first week of the month.

February 1 – 8: It is a period where the moon is waning. It will be convenient to fertilize, water, prune in the event that the moon is in a descending phase and we will harvest. If we harvest this week our buds will have a better smell and flavor.
February 9 – 10: New Moon will be for resting and the day after the new moon will be the ideal time to prune, bend branches, support and fertilize cannabis plants.
February 11 – 23: Period in which the moon grows from new moon until it is completely full. For this reason, the moon will go through the crescent phase, an ideal period for fertilizing, watering, preventing pests and fungi, and harvesting the buds. Likewise, this phase is the ideal one to germinate the seeds, starting February 20 it will be the perfect time for germination.
Many outdoor growers start growing their autoflowering seeds. It is recommended as long as the temperature conditions are favorable or greenhouses are available, to maintain optimal temperature and humidity.

February 26 – 29: The moon wanes again, it has completed its monthly cycle again and we will be able to carry out the same work as at the beginning of the month.

March 1 – 9: On March 2 the moon will be in the waning phase, the sap descends towards the roots so their development will increase. We do not recommend transplanting at all, it is an ideal period to fertilize since the plants absorb nutrients more easily.
March 10 – 11: On new moon days the plants rest and recharge energy, so we can prune, place stakes, bend branches and fertilize. If you are growing a crop with pruning techniques, these days are ideal to shape the crop.
March 12 – 24: During these approximately two weeks the moon will be in the waxing phase, on the 17th it will be the time when it will be in the waxing phase. The sap begins to activate and rise from the roots to the stem and branches, so it is a good time to fertilize, water, harvest or germinate.
Many growers begin their outdoor cultivation at the end of March, thanks to the fact that the beginning of spring takes place on March 20. Germinating our outdoor cannabis seeds starting March 21 – 22 will be a success.
March 25 – 26: On the 25th the moon is in a full moon, a day that according to our cannabis lunar calendar will be the best time to plant the seeds that we have germinated on the 21st – 22nd. So their development will be seen totally influenced by the moon, completely improving it.
March 27 – 31: Once again we will have a period where the moon wanes, root development will increase, improving plant growth. We can fertilize the plants, water and perform pruning work, even harvest, obtaining buds with better aromas and flavors.

April 1 – 8: We begin the month with the waning quarter, the root system develops and it is a good time to fertilize, water and harvest our plants. For growers who have started growing outdoors, it is not advisable to plant or transplant during this period; we recommend waiting a week to do so in another lunar phase.
April 9 – 10: New Moon Period, on the 9th it is advisable to let the plants rest. On the 10th we will prune, place stakes and fertilize the cannabis plants if necessary.
April 11 – 22: During these days the moon will be in the waxing phase, with the 16th being the moment in which it is in its waxing phase. The cannabis lunar calendar tells us that during these weeks it will be a very good opportunity to water and fertilize the plants with organic fertilizers, improving their absorption, it will also be the time to germinate.

Thanks to the fact that the sap is in the roots in waning phases, the seeds transplanted during the previous week will begin to develop their root system strongly.

May 1 – 7: Spring is in full swing, during the first days of the month the moon is in a waning phase. It is a week in which we will water, fertilize, or harvest. We do not recommend transplanting during this period.
May 8 – 9: Day 8 is the day in which we will have to let the cannabis plants rest, while day 9 is an excellent day for pruning, bending branches or staking the plants. It is a good day to change the pot of our outdoor plants.
May 10 – 22: On May 15 the moon is in the first quarter phase and during these 12 days it will be the best time to grow autoflowering seeds.
The best day for their germination will be the 20th, so that they can germinate in two days and transplant them on the 24th. With this, we can take advantage of the influence of the moon and high hours of light to maximize the crop.
May 23 – 24: May 23 is a full moon and it is NOT advisable to fertilize, prune and harvest, however, on the 24th it will be time to transplant our autoflowering cannabis seeds into the final pot. Knowing the cannabis lunar calendar, we will know what jobs we can and cannot do.
May 25 – 31: The moon is once again in its waning period, during these days it will be convenient to water, fertilize and harvest. If at the beginning of the month we were not able to cut the autoflowering plants that we grew at the end of February, we will take advantage of these days to cut the tasty buds they have produced. On the 30th the moon is in the waning phase.

During that week it will be convenient to prune the cannabis plants, before they begin to grow excessively, we will fertilize and water often, since it is the month with the longest hours of light, and when our beloved plants will grow the most.
June 7 – 8: On the 7th the moon is in a new moon so it will be the day of the month that we will give it rest, while on Saturday the 8th we will be able to bend the branches, prune them before they grow in height and develop at top.
June 9 – 20: Thanks to the many hours of light at the end of spring and the waxing phase of the moon, feminized and autoflowering plants will develop in the best possible way. For this reason we recommend fertilizing and watering.
This week will be a good week to germinate the most sativa seeds, so that they do not have a monstrous development and do not grow excessively. Starting this month, we do not recommend germinating feminized marijuana seeds.
June 21 – 22: The full moon will coincide with the summer solstice, the hours will begin to decrease and plants will begin to bloom. We will let the plants rest on Friday the 21st and on Saturday the 22nd we can transplant seeds that we have germinated the previous days.
June 23 – 30: The moon is waning, the 28th will be the last quarter, during this week we can fertilize, prune, harvest autoflowering plants or the last indoor crop before summer.
Marijuana cultivation lunar calendar July 2024
July 1 – 5: These first days of the month the moon is waning, where we can harvest autoflowering plants or fertilize.
July 6 – 7: The 6th will be your day of the month of rest, while on the 7th we can place stakes so that the branches can support the heavy buds. We will bend branches if necessary and we can even perform pruning.
July 8 – 20: During these days the moon is in the waxing phase, with Saturday the 13th being the first quarter. August 5 – 6: On August 5, the moon will be in the new moon phase, so we will have to let our crops rest. If necessary we can also bend branches, put stakes or prune.
August 7 – 18: Period where the moon is in the waxing phase, where Monday the 12th is the first quarter. These days will be our last opportunity to grow autoflowering cannabis seeds outdoors. We must look for the fastest varieties to avoid the arrival of cold weather as much as possible.
These days it will be highly recommended to fertilize since the buds have begun to form and we want to get the most out of it. The use of preventatives against pests and fungi must be present, since, due to heat and humidity, insects and fungi can be unwanted visitors.
August 19 – 20: On the 19th the full blue moon will take place, which will illuminate the plants in an impressive way. The sap is found in the upper parts of the plant, so it is NOT advisable to fertilize, but it is advisable to transplant or harvest.
August 21 – 31: We will end the month again in the waning period and it may be time to harvest our fastest cannabis plants. The moon assumes the shape of a last quarter on Monday the 26th, and during this week it will be a good time to harvest the Fast Version plants that finish at the end of August.

September 18 – 19: On the 18th we find ourselves in a full moon, during these two days we will be able to plant and transplant germinated seeds or seedlings. The 19th will be a very good day to harvest mature plants from outdoor cultivation.
